Documenting Coronavirus lockdown life in Brighton

Eerie photographs of an empty city

Beginning of March I was excited that the days were getting longer and I could already see Brighton getting ready for another busy summer season. I’m a wedding photographer based in Brighton and I was looking forward to capturing fun and amazing weddings and having the best time with my 2020 couples.

Fast forward 8 weeks and here we are, trying to adjust to this new way of life. During the past weeks I’ve been taking my camera on my local walks as I felt the need to record this unique and challenging moment of our times. The empty streets, the closed down shops and bars are now a reflection of our new Brighton. While I’m sure things will slowly get better, these photographs are a reminder of how much our city lives had to transform in order to protect the ones we love.

Being a part of the artist support pledge

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many artists around the world have found themselves without work, teaching, technical support, gallery work, exhibitions and sales have disappeared. In an attempt to help alleviate some of this stress Matthew Burrows Studio has instigated the #artistsupportpledge described below.

The concept is a simple one. You post images of your work to sell for no more than $200 (£200, €200, ¥20000) each (not including shipping.) Anyone can then buy the work. Every time you reach $1000 of sales you pledge to buy another artist’s work for $200.

While I would love to support fellow artist around the world, my current financial situation doesn’t allow me to do so. However, by taking part of the artist support pledge I can do my part without financial strain. It’s all based on community, generosity and giving back.

As part of the #artistsupportpledge I’m selling some work from my Brighton on Pause limited edition series. The photographs come ready to hang as float acrylic panels and can be purchased in two sizes: 18″ x 12″ for £200 and 12″ x 8″ for £140.

I pledge to buy one artwork when I sell five as part of the @artistsupportpledge.

Please contact me if you’d like to purchase or want more information. I hope that this way I can support people who need a helping hand as much as me. Thank you!
